1121 Sella Basmati Rice from Pakistan
1121 Sella is the parboiled form of 1121 Basmati and the most traded 1121 variant globally. We soak the paddy for 8-12 hours, steam it under pressure, then mill and polish. This drives B-vitamins from the bran into the grain and produces the golden color that Saudi and Iraqi buyers require. Sella grain is harder, breaks less during cooking, and separates cleanly. We offer two grades: Creamy Sella (lighter steaming, pale gold) and Golden Sella (longer steaming, deep amber).
1121 Sella Basmati Rice FOB Karachi: Creamy Sella $1,095-$1,135/MT, Golden Sella $1,110-$1,150/MT.
8.30mm raw grain, golden color after parboiling. Firm, non-sticky texture, each grain separates for kabsa and mandi.

Properties and Benefits
- Golden to amber color, depending on steaming duration
- Firm grain that holds shape during cooking, no breakage
- Each grain separates cleanly, essential for kabsa and mandi
- Higher B-vitamin retention than white rice
- Longer shelf life than raw white, up to 24 months
How Sella (Parboiled) is Produced
We soak raw paddy in water for 8-12 hours, then steam it under controlled pressure. The heat gelatinizes the starch, hardens the grain, and pushes B-vitamins from the outer bran into the endosperm. After drying, we mill and polish the grain normally. For Creamy Sella, steaming is lighter, producing a pale golden color. For Golden Sella, we extend the steaming cycle for a deeper amber finish.

1121 Sella Basmati Rice: Common Questions
Sella means parboiled. We soak 1121 Basmati paddy for 8-12 hours and steam it before milling. This produces a golden, firmer grain that separates cleanly when cooked. Sella is the most traded form of 1121 Basmati globally. Saudi Arabia and Iraq import it for kabsa and mandi.
Creamy Sella ($1,095-$1,135/MT) gets lighter steaming and comes out pale gold. Golden Sella ($1,110-$1,150/MT) gets a longer steaming cycle for a deeper amber color. Golden commands a $15-20/MT premium. Both have the same grain length and cooking performance. The difference is color intensity.
Kabsa and mandi require each grain to remain separate and intact. Sella's firmer structure delivers that. The golden color is also part of the visual expectation for these dishes. Sella also stores better: up to 24 months versus 12-18 for white.
We hold SASO (Saudi Standards) and SFDA (Saudi Food and Drug Authority) compliance, plus Halal certification from a GACP-accredited body. We also hold ISO 22000, ISO 9001, HACCP, and FDA registration. All documentation ships with the cargo.
