1121 Basmati is an extra-long grain basmati rice variety grown in Pakistan and India. Raw grain length is 8.3mm, cooked length reaches 22mm. Pakistan exports two categories: basmati (1121 Basmati, Super Kernel, D98) and non-basmati long grain (IRRI-6, IRRI-9, PK386). Each variety is available in white, sella (parboiled), and steam processing. Broken grades range from 5% to 100%. All rice is long grain. Pakistan does not grow short or medium grain rice.
Sella (parboiled) rice is soaked, steamed, and dried before milling. This hardens the grain and gives it a golden color. Sella holds its shape during cooking, making it preferred for bulk food service and dishes like biryani and kabsa. Steam rice is lightly steamed after milling for a softer texture and whiter appearance. Both are available in 1121 Basmati and PK386 grades.
Broken rice is used as a staple food in West Africa, for beer brewing, rice flour production, and animal feed. Pakistan exports 100% broken rice (IRRI-6) from $325/MT FOB Karachi. Major import markets include Senegal, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, and Guinea-Bissau. Available in 25/50 kg PP woven bags.
