Shipping Activity at Port Qasim Sees an Uptick

Shipping activity at the port in Karachi has been bustling with the arrival and departure of several ships. One of the containers ship, ‘MSC Archimedis’, recently berthed at the Container Terminal. Additionally, three more ships, namely the Maersk Yorkton, MH Sandef Jord, and Ionic Artemis, arrived at the outer-anchorage of Port Qasim within the last 24 hours for the purpose of loading/offloading containers, rice, and mogas.

During the same time frame, eight ships were also engaged at PQA berths. Among them, the Majestic Noor, African Loon, and Gaslog Geneva departed from the port in the morning, while three other ships, namely the MSC Archimedis, Clyde4, and White Peach, are expected to set sail in the afternoon.

The port handled a total cargo volume of 171,231 tonnes, out of which 127,174 tonnes consisted of import cargo and 44,057 tonnes were export cargo. This cargo was carried in 2,810 containers, with 1,240 TEUs for imports and 1,570 TEUs for exports.

Currently, there are three ships at the Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim. These include the MH Sandef Jord, Ionic Artemis, and Maersk Yorkton. Another ship, known as Wide Alpha, is scheduled to load/offload rice, mogas, and containers at MW-1, FOTCO, and QICT respectively on May 7th. Furthermore, two more container ships, the Maersk Cape Town and MSC Roma, are expected to arrive at Port Qasim on Wednesday.
