New Delhi: After imposing 20 per cent export duty on non-basmati rice, the Centre had earlier in September banned the export of broken rice with an aim to increase domestic availability. However, the commerce ministry on Tuesday clarified that there is no export ban on rice.

Traders can ship the commodity after paying a 20 per cent duty, the ministry added. In a trade notice, the directorate general of foreign trade said it has received representations regarding rice (5 per cent and 25 per cent broken) where irrevocable letter of credit has been issued before September 8 is also being stopped at the ports.

Meanwhile, the Centre on Sunday said there is enough food grain stock available in the country. Government of India is regularly monitoring the price scenario of essential commodities including wheat and rice and taking corrective measures, wherein required, it added.

Govt. of India is well aware of the prices scenario and monitoring it regularly on weekly basis, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution said in a statement.
