PhilRice donates 7 tons of rice to NegOcc typhoon victims

The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) Negros Station based in Murcia town has donated some 7.6 tons of milled rice to the provincial government of Negros Occidental for victims of Typhoon Odette.
The rice supply, comprised of 695 packs containing 10 kilos per pack, will be distributed to the affected local government units in southern Negros, including Candoni town, which received relief goods on Thursday.
Provincial Executive Assistant Francis Velez, together with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) officer-in-charge Dina Genzola, received the donation from PhilRice Negros Occidental Station through Director Gerardo Estoy Jr. at the Provincial Capitol grounds here in the afternoon of Feb. 16.
The province continues to hold relief operations every week in typhoon-affected local government units, Velez said.
Meanwhile, the provincial government also received 10,820 kilos of rice seeds from the Oriental Mindoro Seed Producers Multi-Purpose Cooperative on the same day.
The donation was made possible through the coordination efforts of the OPA, PhilRice Negros Station, Province of Oriental Mindoro, Office of the Civil Defense, and Philippine Coast Guard.
Last December 16, Typhoon Odette slammed into Negros Occidental, leaving the southern localities, particularly those situated in the sixth district the worst hit by the disaster.
These include the cities of Kabankalan and Sipalay as well as the municipalities of Ilog, Candoni, Cauayan, and Hinobaan, which experienced strong winds, heavy rains, and widespread floods. (PNA)
