China (Hainan) International Winter Trade Fair Showcases Tropical Agricultural Products
Haikou, China – The 26th China (Hainan) International Winter Trade Fair for Tropical Agricultural Products is currently underway in Haikou, the capital city of Hainan Province in southern China. The fair has attracted visitors from all over the world with its diverse range of products, including durian from Thailand, coffee from Rwanda, and rice from Cambodia.
This year’s fair features participation from enterprises representing over 20 countries and about 60 representatives from international organizations. Cambodia is the guest country of honor, and their national pavilion covers an area of approximately 260 square meters. The pavilion combines modern exhibition fixtures with traditional Cambodian architectural styles, showcasing a variety of agricultural products such as cashews, dried mangos, pineapples, rice, pepper, and more.
Svay Nakry, an undersecretary of State with the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia, emphasized the strong partnership between China and Cambodia which has been developing since 2010. In fact, China remains Cambodia’s largest trading partner, with the trade volume between the two countries reaching 11.08 billion U.S. dollars by the end of November this year, representing a 4.7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2022.
Nakry expressed her confidence that the trade fair would provide an excellent opportunity to connect with potential buyers and partners for mutual prosperity. She believes that the event will foster fruitful cooperation between China and Cambodia, during and after the fair.
Pakistan Highlights its Products at the Trade Fair
The Pakistani pavilion at the fair is showcasing a wide range of products, including rice, tea, biscuits, chocolate, and saffron. Muhammad Waqas, a Pakistani businessman, highlighted the importance of the Chinese market for Pakistan and expressed the desire to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
Waqas stated, “Pakistan and China have good relations, and we value the Chinese market. With its large population, China offers significant business opportunities. We want to introduce our products here, just as we have Chinese products in our country. It’s a cooperation between two nations.”
Waqas hopes that Pakistani enterprises participating in the trade fair will find wholesale buyers and secure substantial orders, further strengthening trade ties between Pakistan and China.
Malaysia Showcases Unique Products
The Malaysian pavilion, organized by the Malaysia Promas International Business Society, features 16 companies displaying the country’s distinct products. These include coffee and edible bird’s nests.
Chey Ming Soon, the director of a Malaysian bird’s nest processing factory, is attending the fair for the first time and expressed his desire to find partners and retailers. Reflecting on his successful participation at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai earlier this year, where he sold over 20 kilograms of edible bird’s nests, Soon recognizes the enormous potential of the Chinese market.
He stated, “The potential of the Chinese market is huge due to its large population and strong demand. Additionally, the Chinese government provides support. The winter trade fair, sponsored by the government, not only helps products from around the world enter the Chinese market but also offers new business opportunities.”
Visitors and Business Opportunities
Henry Robertson, representing an Australian agricultural company, expressed his enthusiasm for the fair and the Chinese market. Robertson believes that the fair will become more international in the future and expects significant growth for his company within China.
He commented, “The fair is very big, and the displays are really impressive, very professional, and really interesting.”
The four-day winter trade fair, which started on Thursday and concludes on Sunday, occupies an exhibition hall spanning approximately 80,000 square meters. Product categories at the fair include fruits and vegetables, grains and oils, tea, coffee, livestock, aquaculture, agricultural technologies, and cross-border e-commerce.
