US State Department Official Emphasizes the Need for Condemnation of Terrorism Worldwide
Washington
During a recent media briefing, Vedant Patel, Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of State, reaffirmed the United States’ stance on terrorism, urging all countries to condemn it wherever it occurs. Patel’s comments came in response to a question about the status of US relations with India and Pakistan, specifically in the context of India’s position that terrorism and diplomatic talks with Pakistan cannot coexist.
Pointing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s consistent efforts to establish a positive relationship with Pakistan while maintaining a strong stance against terrorism, the reporter sought Patel’s perspective. In reply, Patel stressed that the US encourages all countries to foster better relations with their neighbors.
“While we welcome any countries seeking to enhance relations with their neighbors, it is ultimately up to India and Pakistan to define the nature of their bilateral ties,” Patel explained. He added that the US is dedicated to strengthening ties with India in numerous critical areas, including economic and security cooperation.
Patel highlighted that US President Joe Biden recently had a brief interaction with Prime Minister Modi during the G7 summit, indicating the significance of India as a key partner for the US.
“Increasing our economic and security cooperation with India remains a priority. We value the deepening relationship between our countries,” Patel stated.
In conclusion, Patel emphasized the importance of global unity in the fight against terrorism. He expressed the hope that every country in the world joins in condemning acts of terror, irrespective of the locations or targets.
