Sri Lanka to import 100,000 Metric Tons of rice from Myanmar

Jan 08, Colombo: The Si Lankan government has decided to import 100,000 Metric Tons of rice from Myanmar in order to maintain a buffer stock.
The Ministry of Trade has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Myanmar to purchase 100,000 metric tonnes of rice as a buffer stock with immediate effect, Minister Bandula Gunawardena said.
The rice stock will be imported through a state corporation from Myanmar based on the agreement between the governments of Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
