34th Senior Management Course Delegation from NIM Lahore Visits FCCI
Creation of Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) is a significant step taken by the government, bureaucracy, and business community to ensure uniformity, consistency in policies, and availability of affordable inputs, according to Dr. Sajjad Arshad, the Acting President of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI).
During a visit to FCCI, Dr. Sajjad Arshad addressed the participants of the 34th Senior Management Course at the National Institute of Management (NIM) Lahore. Dr. Sajjad Arshad further explained that FCCI has established standing committees for each sector to address specific issues and propose viable solutions. The chamber acts as a bridge between the government and the business community, engaging with policymakers at the federal, provincial, and local levels.
Faisalabad, known for its textile industry, contributes 40% to Pakistan’s total textile exports and provides significant employment opportunities. FCCI takes its corporate social responsibility seriously and actively supports healthcare and education initiatives by managing hospitals, universities, and schools.
The focus on worker welfare is another aspect emphasized by Dr. Sajjad Arshad. FCCI strives to upgrade workers’ welfare schools and equip them with the latest technologies, ensuring access to higher education for their children.
Dr. Sajjad Arshad expressed satisfaction with the government’s realization of the importance of political and economic stability. The creation of SIFC aims to ensure policy continuity, contributing to a stable business environment. He called for regionally competitive rates for electricity and gas to enhance exports and emphasized the need to control smuggling to stabilize currency rates.
The Acting President also mentioned the import-export imbalance and encouraged the development of import substitution industries to address this issue. He emphasized the need to exploit Pakistan’s abundant mineral resources to achieve self-reliance.
Dr. Sajjad Arshad emphasized the potential of rice exports, stating that Pakistan could earn ten billion dollars from rice exports, compared to the current 2.5 billion dollars. He stressed the importance of increasing agricultural productivity and value addition in the sector to make Pakistan self-reliant.
