China’s Technological Advances to Enhance Agriculture in Pakistan
Pakistan is looking to boost its agricultural productivity and ensure food security by harnessing China’s technological advancements. According to Ahmed Bilal, a Senior Scientific Officer at the National Agricultural Research Council (NARC), China’s scientific and technological progress can revolutionize Pakistan’s agriculture sector and enhance productivity.
China has made significant progress in agriculture through methods like precision farming, drone technology, and smart irrigation systems. These advancements have not only increased crop yields but have also improved resource utilization, making agriculture more resilient to climate change. Pakistan, dealing with water scarcity, can greatly benefit from China’s smart irrigation systems. These systems use sensors and automation to provide the right amount of water to crops, minimizing waste and conserving water resources. By adopting this technology, Pakistani farmers can ensure their crops receive adequate hydration while reducing water usage.
Bilal emphasizes the need for enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and China, particularly under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), to develop advanced line seed varieties and agricultural techniques such as aquaponics, hydroponics, and tunnel farming. These modern concepts aid Pakistani farmers in enhancing crop production and reducing the strain on soil and the environment caused by harmful practices.
China’s journey towards modernizing its agriculture and achieving food security serves as valuable experience for Pakistan. Collaborative efforts between the two countries, particularly through initiatives like the CPEC, have led to progress in farming techniques and infrastructure, crucial for Pakistan’s agricultural economy.
To facilitate the transfer of technologies, further bilateral collaborations are necessary. Joint research initiatives, training programs, and technology exchange forums can pave the way for seamless integration of Chinese advancements into Pakistan’s agriculture sector.
