International agricultural companies show interest in the western Chinese market
Morocco hypermarket head, Taourghist Abdessamad, expressed his excitement about the diverse agricultural products showcased at the 9th Sichuan Agricultural Expo in Chengdu, China. The expo, held from October 27 to 30, saw the participation of 3,000 enterprises from China and other countries. Representatives from foreign companies actively sought cooperation with Chinese agricultural enterprises.
The expo featured an exhibition area of 140,000 square meters and hosted special activities by countries including the UK, Nepal, South Korea, Pakistan, and Italy. Foreign attendees showed significant interest in China’s agricultural products market, particularly in the western regions.
Kulager Abdecho Degaga from Ethiopia showcased coffee beans from his hometown and even made coffee for visitors to taste. Having traded with Chinese companies for over a decade, Abdecho Degaga noticed the growing popularity of coffee among the younger generation in China. In 2016, his company began exporting Ethiopian coffee and sesame to China, reaching sales of 150,000 U.S. dollars last year.
This year, a special “Belt and Road” agricultural cooperation pavilion was established at the expo to promote collaboration between enterprises from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. The pavilion facilitated exchanges in agriculture, including the import and export of agricultural products.
The Pakistan National Pavilion, dedicated to Pakistan as the guest of honor, showcased a range of rice varieties by the Pakistan AMIR Rice Import & Export Company. He Xiaoyan, the head of an international trade company in Sichuan, visited the pavilion and expressed her optimism about the agricultural market in Sichuan and the prospects for agricultural product imports and exports in western China due to the convenient China-Europe freight trains.
Chinese enterprises saw the expo as an opportunity to boost the sales of their agricultural products in the international market. Cui Bingqian, the deputy general manager of Zhejiang Beilai Chaxiang Biotechnology Co., Ltd., highlighted the company’s investment in research and development to capitalize on the Belt and Road Initiative. They recently launched a new freeze-dried tea product for international markets.
Overall, the 9th Sichuan Agricultural Expo proved to be a fruitful platform for international collaboration and showcased the increasing interest in China’s agricultural products.
