International Agricultural Firms Show Interest in Expanding into Western Chinese Market
The 9th Sichuan Agricultural Expo, which took place from October 27 to 30 in Chengdu, China, attracted participants from all over the world. One of the attendees, Taourghist Abdessamad, the head of a hypermarket in Morocco, expressed his excitement about the wide variety of agricultural products available at the expo. He was particularly interested in the local green tea and planned to contact a Chinese tea company for potential business opportunities.
With an exhibition area of 140,000 square meters, the expo featured 3,000 enterprises from China and various foreign countries. Representatives from international enterprises actively sought cooperation with Chinese agricultural companies. The organizer of the expo highlighted that foreign countries like the United Kingdom, Nepal, the Republic of Korea, Pakistan, and Italy conducted special activities during the event. Many foreign attendees showed great interest in the agricultural products market in China’s western regions.
Kulager Abdecho Degaga from Ethiopia showcased coffee beans from his hometown and made coffee for visitors to taste. His company has been trading with Chinese companies for over a decade, primarily importing agricultural machinery from Shandong Province to African countries. However, in recent years, they have witnessed the growing popularity of coffee among young Chinese people, prompting them to export Ethiopian coffee and sesame to China. Last year alone, their sales reached 150,000 U.S. dollars.
This year, a special “Belt and Road” agricultural cooperation pavilion was organized at the expo. Its purpose was to promote exchanges and collaboration between enterprises from “Belt and Road” partner countries in the agricultural industry, including the import and export of agricultural products.
One of the highlights of the expo was the Pakistan National Pavilion, where He Xiaoyan, the head of an international trade company in Sichuan, examined a variety of rice displayed by Pakistan AMIR Rice Import & Export Company. He expressed the belief that the agricultural resources in western China are rich and that the agricultural product market in Sichuan has promising prospects. Additionally, the China-Europe freight trains in the region provide convenience in reaching many “Belt and Road” partner countries, further driving agricultural product imports and exports in western China.
Chinese enterprises aimed to enhance the international sales of their agricultural products through the expo. For instance, Zhejiang Beilai Chaxiang Biotechnology Co., Ltd., a company that previously focused on selling traditional tea, has expanded its investment in product research and development to seize the opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative. They recently introduced a new product, freeze-dried tea, specifically targeting the international market.
Overall, the 9th Sichuan Agricultural Expo served as a platform for global agricultural cooperation, fostering exchanges, boosting sales, and exploring business opportunities in the international market. It highlighted the growth potential of the agricultural industry in China’s western regions.
