Rice puller scam busted, two arrested for duping people of Rs 78 lakh

Police have arrested two fraudsters for allegedly cheating a duo of Rs 78.8 lakh after promising huge returns in the rice-pulling business in the state capital recently.
The accused have been identified Vignesh BA (37), a resident of Nagarabhavi, and Nagaraj C (45), a resident of Mulbagal in Kolar district. Two other suspects in the case are still absconding, reported the Times of India.
Police said that the victim, Neethan Raj, a resident of Basavanagudi, registered a police complaint stating that the conmen had approached him and his friend, Gopi Karthik, to invest money in their business of a hand-sized vessel that had “thunderbolt strike and isotope radiation”. The fraudsters made the victims believe that they could sell the vessel for Rs 100 crore to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency or NASA.
As per the TOI report, they asked the victims to pay them Rs 1 crore for license and promised to return Rs 5 crore. They paid Rs 78.8 lakh to miscreants on January 3. After realising that they had been conned, they registered a cheating case against the accused.
Based on the victim’s complaint, police arrested the accused and recovered Rs 15 lakh from their possession. The conmen had rented a temporary office at World Trade Centre in Bengaluru’s Yeshwantpur and used to travel in Mercedes and Audi cars to impress the victims.
A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly duping a businessman of Rs 49,000 using a loan app on the victim’s mobile phone, police said.
According to cyber crime police, the accused was identified as a private firm employee, Pradeep V of Vidyaranyapura. The incident came to light when the victim filed a police complaint on December 21 last year, stating that the accused had taken a loan of Rs 40,000 using his documents and mobile phone. Later, Rs 9,000 were transferred from his account to an unknown account, the Times of India reported.
