President Emphasizes the Role of Rice Exporters in Pakistan’s Economic Growth

In a recent address at the 15th Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) Recognition Ceremony, President Arif Alvi highlighted the crucial role played by decision-makers in driving the country towards economic stability. The event, held at a local hotel and attended by Sindh Governor Mohammed Kamran Khan Tessori, showcased the potential of the business community in strengthening Pakistan’s economy. President Alvi commended REAP on its remarkable journey, with exports increasing from $300 million to an impressive $3 billion.

During his speech, the President encouraged REAP members to explore joint ventures and focus on producing value-added rice products. He praised the idea of the ‘Biryani Festival’ as a means of creating value in the industry and invited REAP to organize the festival at the President House. Furthermore, President Alvi emphasized the importance of revitalizing rice research institutions to enhance Pakistan’s position in the global market. Responding to REAP’s demand, he suggested the establishment of market-oriented institutions in collaboration with the government and REAP.

The President also stressed the significance of employing women in companies to empower them and to enable their active participation in the country’s economy. He highlighted the need to provide quality education to children to equip them to face the challenges confronting the nation. Additionally, President Alvi expressed his condemnation of the brutality in Gaza, expressing solidarity with the victims.

Sindh Governor Mohammed Kamran Khan Tessori, in his address at the ceremony, acknowledged that rice was the second most significant export for Pakistan. He lamented the fact that it had not yet been recognized as an industry. Tessori commended the efforts of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) in combating economic and border terrorism, which had contributed to the decrease in the value of the dollar. He also expressed optimism regarding the improvement of the law and order situation in the country, citing the ongoing action against illegal immigrants.

The recognition ceremony highlighted the vital role played by the rice export industry in Pakistan’s economic growth. By acknowledging its potential, encouraging value-added productions, and providing support through joint ventures and market-oriented institutions, Pakistan can solidify its position as one of the leading rice exporters in the world.
