President emphasizes the significance of attitude change in driving economic growth across sectors
Attitudinal Change Can Boost Pakistan’s Rice Export Industry
President Dr. Arif Alvi has highlighted the importance of attitudinal change in the growth and development of various sectors, including the production and export of Pakistan’s renowned Basmati rice. To achieve this, the president emphasized the need for technological advancements and scientific research in the agriculture sector.
Speaking at the Biryani Festival and presenting the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) journal, President Alvi encouraged rice exporters to utilize all available tools to improve their yield and contribute to the country’s exports. He expressed his belief that attitudinal changes can stimulate positive transformations in the economy, and emphasized the inclusion and empowerment of women in the agriculture sector.
Drawing inspiration from the Netherlands, President Alvi highlighted the impact of utilizing scientific tools and knowledge in the agriculture sector. Despite being 19% smaller in size than Pakistan, the Netherlands has become the second-largest food exporter in the world through the use of advanced technology and research.
Appreciating REAP’s role in boosting the country’s exports and economy, President Alvi commended the organization for organizing festivals and road shows in various countries, providing significant business opportunities to local Basmati rice growers and exporters. He also suggested exploring organic cultivation methods for rice crops, citing global water scarcity as a primary concern.
President Alvi underscored that with proper utilization of world resources, it is possible to feed the global population of 7 billion people. He expressed regret over the continuing exploitation of populations and accumulation of wealth, as well as the hoarding of food supplies that contribute to food crises. Addressing these issues requires setting global priorities and allocating just $1 trillion, according to the president.
Contrary to these negative practices, President Alvi emphasized the teachings of Islam, which consider wealth as a means to uplift and benefit the entire community, leading to the well-being of all human beings.
In conclusion, President Alvi’s remarks highlight the potential for growth and development in Pakistan’s rice export industry through attitudinal change, technological advancements, and inclusive initiatives. By embracing scientific tools and knowledge, the country can work towards achieving food self-sufficiency and contributing to the global agricultural landscape.
