Rice Canal Breach Causes Flooding in Larkana

A breach in the Rice Canal near Kari Mori, close to Sehar railway station, has resulted in the flooding of Yar Ali Chandio and Gulsher Chandio villages in Larkana. The breach, which occurred at 382-RD, has caused extensive damage to recently transplanted paddy seedlings and is threatening to reach other nearby villages and the Rohri-Kotri railway track.

Locals reported that the irrigation department was informed about the seepage on Tuesday, but no action was taken. Frustrated by the lack of response, the villagers took matters into their own hands and attempted to plug the breach without any assistance.

Eventually, heavy machinery was deployed to the breach site to support the efforts of the villagers. Larkana Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Phull assured that the breach is almost fully plugged and that the deputy commissioner will assess the extent of damage to agricultural land and villages in the area.

The irrigation staff is currently working with heavy machinery to completely seal the breach and prevent further flooding.
