Start of Ramadan Relief Package: March 5 Announced
The Utility Stores Corporation is set to provide subsidies worth Rs7.49 billion on 19 items as part of the Ramzan Relief Package, starting from tomorrow. This package aims to benefit at least 20 million people registered with the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) who fall under the poverty index score of PMT-60 or less.
Authorities have urged eligible families who are not registered with BISP to contact the nearest BISP offices for enrollment purposes. The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved the Ramzan Relief Package, allocating a budget of Rs7.49 billion to the Utility Stores Corporation.
The package includes 19 essential items such as flour, sugar, various pulses, rice (including Basmati, Selia, and Broken Rice), oil, beverages, carbonated drinks, squashes and syrups, tea, milk, and spices. Consumers will receive subsidies on several items, including oil, dal channa, white gram, Baisen, dates, rice, tea, and tetra pack milk.
Consumers registered with BISP will be eligible to receive 20 kilograms of flour per month, along with five kilograms of sugar, ghee, rice, and pulses. Additionally, special discounts will be offered to general consumers in addition to the targeted subsidies.
It’s worth mentioning that the federal government has allocated Rs35 billion for the budget of the financial year 2023-2024 to subsidize essential items as part of the Prime Minister’s Relief Package and the Ramazan Relief Package, both to be implemented through the Utility Stores Corporation.
