Ramzan Package Launch: Flour Unavailable at Utility Stores in Karachi
**Government Introduces Ramzan Package with Subsidies on Essential Food Items**
In a bid to provide relief to the people during the holy month of Ramzan, the federal government of Pakistan has launched a Ramzan Package that offers discounts on various food items at utility stores. However, the absence of atta flour from many stores has caused inconvenience to consumers.
Under this package, residents of Karachi who are registered under the Benazir Income Support Fund (BISP) can avail subsidies on 19 essential items. These items include ghee oil, sugar, pulses, white gram, rice, besan, dates, canned milk, and beverages. The aim is to ensure that these items are affordable for the people during the month of fasting.
One of the key features of this package is the significant discount on atta flour. The government has reduced its price by over 50%. Previously priced at Rs 1420 per 10 kg bag, it is now available at just Rs 648. Similarly, sugar has been discounted from Rs 150 to Rs 190 per kg, and ghee is now available at a reduced price of Rs 25. In addition, pulses, gram, and dates have been discounted by Rs 25 per kg, while rice is available at a discounted price of Rs 25. Tea and Tetra Pack milk are also included in the package with discounts of Rs 100 and Rs 30 respectively.
However, the absence of flour from most stores has raised concerns among consumers. Despite being subsidized, it seems that the supply chain has not effectively reached all utility stores. This issue needs to be addressed promptly in order to ensure that all subsidized items are readily available for the consumers.
Registered individuals under the BISP can purchase a maximum quantity of various items per month. This includes 20 kg of flour, 5 kg of sugar, 5 kg of ghee, 3 kg of rice and pulses, and 5 liters of cooking oil. This restriction ensures that the benefits of the subsidies are distributed fairly among all eligible individuals.
Overall, the Ramzan Package introduced by the federal government aims to provide relief to the people by making essential food items more affordable during the month of Ramzan. However, efforts should be made to address the issue of atta flour not being readily available at utility stores in order to fully implement the objectives of this package.
