Minister Emphasizes Enhancing Punjab-Central Asia Cooperation

Punjab Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kermani, recently chaired an online video conference at Agriculture House Lahore to strengthen cooperation between Punjab and Central Asian regions. The conference aimed to enhance agricultural partnerships and leverage Central Asian expertise and technology to improve wheat, cotton, and fruit production in Punjab.

The conference was attended by Secretary Agriculture Punjab, Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Kazakh Ambassador Yerzhan Kistafin, Agriculture Department Head of Shymkent City, Talgat Mekambaev, Agriculture Department Head of Turkistan Region, Nurbek Badyrakov, and representatives from the business community.

During the conference, Minister Kermani highlighted the need for modern research and mechanization in Punjab’s agricultural sector. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with the Turkistan Region to achieve these goals. By leveraging expertise and technology from Central Asia, Punjab aims to enhance its agricultural productivity and meet growing demands.

Ambassador Kistafin mentioned a recent meeting with the Chief Minister of Punjab, where mutual cooperation between Punjab and Kazakhstan was prioritized. He expressed interest in establishing twin city agreements between Lahore and Shymkent and emphasized Kazakhstan’s demand for high-quality Pakistani rice and citrus. Furthermore, Kazakhstan also showed interest in importing mangoes from the Multan region of Pakistan.

Secretary Sahoo stressed the significance of regular exchanges and conferences between agricultural experts from both countries. He invited the Agriculture Departments of the Turkistan Region and Shymkent City to submit proposals for mutual collaboration. In return, Punjab would share its own proposals to further strengthen the agricultural partnerships.

This conference marks a significant step towards promoting cooperation between Punjab and Central Asian regions. By sharing knowledge, expertise, and technology, Punjab can enhance its agricultural sector and meet the ever-growing demands of the market.
