Protest Outside Pakistani Consulate Demands Release of Activists in Pakistan-occupied Territories
The Pakistani diaspora from the Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK) and Pakistan-occupied Gilgit Baltistan (PoGB) residing overseas organized a protest outside the consulate of Pakistan in England. The demonstrators called for the immediate release of social activists and leaders who have been arrested by the law enforcement agencies of PoGB and PoJK.
A spokesperson from the England’s POJK and POGB diaspora stated during the protest, “We are here protesting for the rights of our fellow brethren back home. Activists and local leaders of POGB and POJK have been unlawfully detained and confined in Mirpur Jail.”
“We demand the immediate release of these activists. Our people have been peacefully demanding their rights, but they are being subjected to brutalities,” the spokesperson added.
When discussing the issue of severe power cuts in PoJK and PoGB, another protester highlighted the fact that a significant amount of electricity is generated from the resources available in the area. “We are not pleading, but rather we are demanding what rightfully belongs to us and our people. The law enforcement agencies are suppressing our peaceful protests and causing harm to our people at home. The perpetrators of these heinous crimes must be apprehended and brought to justice. We are peaceful people, and we demand our rights from the government,” the protester declared.
Another protester shed light on the atrocities suffered by the residents of PoGB and PoJK within Pakistan. “Our people have been subjected to brutal torture within Pakistan for at least a year. It is evident that our people are being mercilessly beaten in Pakistan based on mere accusations and rumors. We estimate that around 100 individuals from PoGB and PoJK have been affected. This alarming situation highlights the torture inflicted on our brethren in Pakistan as well as POJK and PoGB.”
The demonstration serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggles faced by those living in the Pakistan-occupied territories. The protesters and their demands for justice and freedom resonate not only within the diaspora community but also with all those who believe in the values of human rights and equality.
