Weekly Inflation Rises by 0.11 Percent
Weekly Inflation in Pakistan Witnessed a Slight Increase
In the latest report from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the weekly inflation measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) showed a slight increase of 0.11 percent for the combined consumption groups during the week ended on May 30.
According to the data provided by PBS, the SPI for this week reached 308.52 points, compared to 308.19 points in the previous week. Compared to the same week last year, the SPI for the combined consumption group increased by 21.40 percent.
The SPI is based on the year 2015-16 = 100 and covers 17 urban centers and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups. For the lowest consumption group, with expenditures up to Rs 17,732, the SPI increased by 0.09 percent to 298.82 points from the previous week’s 298.56 points.
For consumption groups with expenditures ranging from Rs 17,732-22,888, Rs 22,889-29,517, Rs 29,518-44,175, and above Rs 44,175, the SPI increased by 0.12 percent, 0.12 percent, 0.15 percent, and 0.08 percent respectively. Out of the 51 items considered, prices of 14 items increased, 14 items decreased, and 23 items remained stable during the week.
Some of the items that witnessed a decrease in average prices on a week-on-week basis include eggs (6.14 percent), chili powder (5.73 percent), LPG (5.40 percent), garlic (4.02 percent), rice irri (2.93 percent), wheat flour (1.89 percent), rice basmati broken (1.49 percent), pulse moong and firewood (0.51 percent each), and mustard oil (0.20 percent).
This slight increase in weekly inflation indicates the need for careful monitoring of prices to ensure stability in the market.
