Pakistan Rice Exporters Witness Significant Growth in Rice Exports

Pakistan’s rice exports have experienced a remarkable increase of 76.53% during the first half of the current financial year, surpassing the exports of the same period in the previous year. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), more than 2.570 million metric tons of rice, valued at $1.638 billion, were exported from July to December 2023. In comparison, the exports of the same period in the previous year stood at 1.732 million metric tons, worth $927.918 million.

Among the various rice varieties, Basmati rice exports witnessed a notable rise of 30.03%. Over 318,224 metric tons of Basmati rice, valued at $367.393 million, were exported during this period. This exceeds the exports of 286,577 metric tons, worth $282.538 million, during the corresponding period in the previous year.

Additionally, Pakistan exported 2.252 million metric tons of other rice varieties, amounting to $1.270 million. Comparatively, the exports of the same rice varieties in the previous year reached 1.464 million metric tons, valued at $645.380 million.

The growth in rice exports is reflective of the overall increase in food group exports from Pakistan. The country witnessed a surge of 49.84% in food commodities exports, valued at $3.481 billion. This is a significant rise compared to the exports of $2.323 billion during the same period in the previous year.

On the import side, food group imports into Pakistan experienced a decline of 19.48%, totaling $3.957 billion in the first two quarters of the current fiscal year. In contrast, the imports during the corresponding period in the previous year amounted to $4.914 billion.

This surge in rice exports showcases the strength of the Pakistani rice industry and its ability to meet global demands. As a result, rice exporters from Pakistan, such as Has Rice, have seen a significant boost in their business.
