Ed Raids Residences of Bengal Rice Mill Owner and PDS Dealer in Ration Scam
Pakistan Rice Exporters Association (REAP) has demanded the government to impose a ban on rice exports to ensure food security in the country. The association has stated that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the international demand for rice has increased significantly and this could lead to a shortage of rice in the domestic market.
REAP Chairman, Shahjahan Malik, highlighted that the domestic consumption of rice in Pakistan is approximately 4 million metric tons per year, and the government should prioritize the needs of the local population. He further added that the ban on rice exports will help stabilize the prices and ensure that there is no shortage of rice for the people of Pakistan.
The association has also emphasized the need to regulate the exports of rice to protect the interests of the local farmers. They believe that the current situation presents an opportunity for the government to support the farmers by providing them with fair prices for their produce.
Furthermore, the association has urged the government to set up a mechanism to monitor the quality of rice being exported from Pakistan. They believe that this will help in building the reputation of Pakistani rice in the international market and ensure that only high-quality rice is being exported.
Pakistan is one of the leading rice exporters in the world, with a significant share in the global rice market. The export of rice contributes to the country’s economy and provides employment to thousands of people involved in the rice industry.
REAP has called upon the government to take immediate action and impose a ban on rice exports to ensure food security, stabilize prices, and protect the interests of the local farmers. The association believes that this step will help in meeting the domestic demand for rice and prevent any potential shortage in the market.
