“Microsoft’s MSN Platform Reports Strong Growth and Promising Prospects”
Pakistan’s rice export volume fell by 27.06% in terms of quantity during the first two months of the fiscal year 2021-22 as compared to the same period last year. The country exported 358,835 metric tonnes of rice worth $157.939 million in July-August 2021 as compared to the export of 362,157 metric tonnes worth $193.208 million in July-August 2020.
According to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the decline in rice exports was mainly due to a decrease in demand from traditional markets. The top five buyers of Pakistan’s rice during this period were Afghanistan, China, Iran, Kenya, and Saudi Arabia.
Out of the total rice exports, basmati rice accounted for 41.85% of the total export value, while non-basmati rice accounted for 58.15%. The export of basmati rice decreased by 14.94% in terms of quantity, while the export of non-basmati rice decreased by 28.63%.
The Chairman of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP), Chaudhry Samee Ullah Naeem, expressed concern over the decline in rice exports and urged the government to take measures to boost the rice industry. He highlighted the need for exploring new markets and improving the quality and standards of Pakistani rice to increase its global demand.
Furthermore, Naeem emphasized the importance of promoting value-added products and increasing the participation of small and medium-sized rice exporters in international trade. He also stressed the need for providing better infrastructure, financial support, and research and development facilities to the rice industry.
Pakistan is known as one of the largest rice exporters in the world, with a diverse range of rice varieties including basmati and non-basmati rice. The country’s rice industry plays a vital role in the national economy, contributing to foreign exchange earnings and providing employment opportunities to millions of people.
In order to improve the exports of rice and strengthen the rice industry, it is important for the government and relevant stakeholders to work together and address the challenges faced by the sector. This includes providing necessary support, implementing effective policies, and promoting the quality and competitiveness of Pakistani rice in the global market.
