President Dr Arif Alvi announced on Sunday that the caretaker federal government and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir are working together to attract foreign investment through joint-ventures aimed at improving the country’s economy. He emphasized the importance of effective decision-making in achieving economic stability.
During his address at the 15th Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP)’s Recognition Ceremony, President Alvi praised the business community for their potential to make Pakistan economically strong. He congratulated REAP for its outstanding journey, increasing exports from $300 million to $3 billion.
President Alvi proposed that REAP members consider venturing into joint-ventures and focus on value-added rice products. He also appreciated the idea of the “Biryani Festival” as a valuable addition and invited REAP to organize the festival at the President House.
Alvi emphasized the need to revive rice research institutions to further expand Pakistan’s presence in the international market. In response to REAP’s demand, he suggested establishing market-oriented institutions in collaboration with the government and REAP.
According to President Alvi, empowering women and promoting their participation in the country’s economy is crucial. He also emphasized the importance of providing quality education to children to prepare them for the challenges faced by the nation.
Sindh Governor Mohammed Kamran Khan Tessori, while addressing the ceremony, highlighted that rice is the second-largest export of the country, expressing disappointment that it hasn’t yet been recognized as an industry. He commended the efforts of COAS in combating economic terrorism and mentioned the decrease in the value of the dollar.
Tessori also mentioned the improvement in law and order situation due to actions taken against illegal immigrants. He urged the world to raise its voice against Israeli brutality and support the Palestinians.
REAP Chairman Chela Ram Kewlani described REAP as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and highlighted that Pakistani rice has become a renowned brand globally. He stated that Pakistan produces 9 million tons of rice, which are exported to Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and other parts of the world. Kewlani attributed the success of Pakistani rice exports to its exceptional quality.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of awards and trophies among the top rice exporters by President Alvi and Sindh Governor Tessori.
