acc and pakistani envoy discuss boosting trade cooperation and exchange
Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) members recently met with the Pakistani Ambassador to Jordan, Muhammad Ajmal Iqbal, to discuss ways to strengthen economic ties between the two countries. The ACC’s First Deputy Chairman, Nabil Khatib, expressed the need to enhance cooperation opportunities for businesses, particularly in promising sectors.
Jordan offers an attractive and secure investment climate, and has recently implemented an investment environment law and the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV) to support and incentivize investors. Khatib highlighted the import potential for Pakistani products such as meat, fish, rice, textile materials, and garments, while stating Jordan’s interest in exporting fertilizer, phosphate, potash, olive oil, dates, Dead Sea salts, and other products to Pakistan.
The tourism sector was identified as a key area for advancing economic cooperation. Establishing a direct flight route between the two countries would support commercial activities and increase trade exchanges. Maritime shipping routes also provide affordable transportation options for goods.
The Pakistani Ambassador emphasized the need to further develop trade volume and economic relations between Jordan and Pakistan, particularly in the construction, foodstuff (including rice, sugar, and table salt), fabric and textile manufacturing, furniture, and information and communications technology sectors. The embassy is actively working with the ACC to strengthen these ties through initiatives such as trade exhibitions, mutual trade delegations, and joint tourism collaborations.
Overall, both parties expressed optimism about expanding economic cooperation and exploring untapped potential in various sectors. The existing opportunities, combined with the willingness to foster closer ties, lay a solid foundation for future growth in Jordan-Pakistan economic relations.
