Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Hosts Consul General of Indonesia to Discuss Trade Relations
The Consul General of Indonesia, Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat, recently visited the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) to discuss enhancing trade relations between Indonesia and Pakistan. Despite the trade volume between the two countries reaching $4.5 billion, it only represents 4.4 percent of Pakistan’s overall trade volume with partner countries. Similarly, Indonesia’s trade volume with Pakistan is just 0.9 percent of its total global trade volume. Both countries recognize the need to further develop trade and investment cooperation.
During the meeting, Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat highlighted the importance of understanding the challenges hindering trade between the two nations. He acknowledged the significance of the KCCI as a platform for interaction with business people in Karachi and praised its role in supporting trade relations. He also commended the newly elected KCCI President and expressed optimism for his contribution to enhancing Indonesia-Pakistan cooperation.
The Consul General emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to supporting business people and facilitating trade opportunities. He mentioned that this year alone, Indonesia imported 500,000 metric tonnes of rice from Pakistan, thanks to the efforts made by both countries. To further strengthen trade ties, Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat encouraged the business community in Karachi to participate in trade fairs, engage with Indonesian business people, and organize business delegations to raise awareness of trade opportunities.
He also emphasized the need for cultural relations between Indonesia and Pakistan to foster a conducive atmosphere for trade and investment. Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat highlighted the newly opened Indonesia Pakistan Youth Forum, which provides a platform for the younger generation to create opportunities and lead the way in enhancing bilateral relations.
In response, KCCI President Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh welcomed the Consul General and expressed appreciation for the Indonesian Consulate in Karachi for fostering friendship between the two countries. He acknowledged the immense potential for bilateral trade and investment and highlighted the vibrant markets, skilled labor forces, and favorable geographical locations of both countries. President Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh invited the Indonesian business community to participate in the upcoming My Karachi Exhibition, organized by the KCCI.
The meeting between the Consul General of Indonesia and the KCCI signifies the commitment of both countries to strengthen trade relations. By collaborating and leveraging their strengths, Indonesia and Pakistan can create a synergistic partnership that boosts economic growth, facilitates technological exchange, and fosters innovation.
