Pakistan’s Hajj Mission has imposed penalties on six catering companies contracted to provide meals to Pakistani pilgrims in Makkah. The penalties amount to SAR 263,580 ($71,000) and were imposed for violating certain elements of the agreement and to ensure timely hygienic food for the pilgrims. This year, Pakistan has a Hajj quota of 179,210 pilgrims, with around 70,000 people performing the pilgrimage under the government scheme. The catering companies were selected through a competitive and transparent bidding process to provide safe and healthy food to the pilgrims. The daily menu includes Pakistani and continental cuisine, and there are flexible serving times to avoid rush. The feedback mechanism includes a digital app that has received and resolved 506 food-related complaints so far. Additionally, Pakistan has established hospitals and dispensaries in Makkah, Madinah, and Jeddah to provide healthcare to Hajj pilgrims. The pilgrimage is expected to run from June 14-19, with pre-Hajj flights continuing until June 9.
