Gold imports decline by 6.02% to $13.5 million in the first half
The imports of gold in Pakistan have decreased by 6.02% during the first half of the current fiscal year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The data shows that gold imports from July to December 2023 were $13.562 million, compared to $14.431 million in the same period of the previous year.
In terms of quantity, Pakistan imported 240 kilograms of gold during this period, a slight increase of 0.54% from the previous year’s imports of 239 kilograms.
In December 2023, gold imports saw a significant decrease of 76.06% compared to the same month in the previous year. The imports for December 2023 were worth $0.780 million, while in December 2022 it was $3.259 million. The quantity of gold imported decreased by 75% from 48 kilograms in December 2022 to 12 kilograms in December 2023.
Compared to the previous month, gold imports in December 2023 decreased by 79.99%. In November 2023, the imports were valued at $3.899 million. In terms of quantity, the gold imports declined by 80% compared to the imports in November 2023, which were 60 kilograms.
It is worth mentioning that the overall merchandise trade deficit in Pakistan reduced by 34.29% in the first half of the current fiscal year compared to the same period of the previous year. The trade deficit from July to December 2023 was $11.148 billion, a decrease from $16.965 billion in the same period of 2022.
During this period, exports increased by 5.17% to $14.981 billion compared to $14.244 billion in the previous year. On the other hand, imports decreased by 16.28% and were recorded at $26.129 billion, down from $31.209 billion last year.
