Pakistan’s food exports are expected to exceed $7 billion by the end of the current financial year, according to Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Chief Executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP). This represents a significant increase compared to the previous year’s exports of approximately $4 billion. Motiwala made these remarks during the Gulf Food Exhibition at the Dubai Trade Centre.
Motiwala highlighted that the focus on enhancing food and food-related items has proven to be successful, with exports in this sector experiencing substantial growth. He emphasized that increasing exports of Pakistani products is crucial for achieving economic prosperity, and TDAP is actively contributing to this national objective.
One notable achievement is the significant increase in sesame seed exports, which have seen a remarkable 300-400% rise this year. Additionally, Pakistani rice exports are projected to exceed $3 billion, a considerable increase from the previous figure of $1.5 billion.
The participation of Pakistani exporters in the Gulf Food exhibition has been consistently increasing over the years, showcasing the growing interest and potential in Pakistani products. Motiwala expressed his satisfaction with the overwhelming presence of Pakistani exporters at the event.
During his visit, Motiwala held meetings with key stakeholders, including the Chief Organizer of Saudi Food and Jaffar Shubber, Commercial Director Events Management at Dubai World Trade Centre. Both parties expressed keen interest in Pakistani products’ participation in the upcoming Fresh Fruits & Vegetables Exhibition.
Motiwala also met with the organizing committee of Dubai World Trade Centre to discuss the allocation of more exhibition space to Pakistan in future events. This demonstrates the commitment to expand Pakistan’s presence and promote its products on the global stage.
The ongoing Gulf Food festival features 100 Pakistani exhibitors, with 45 of them being sponsored by TDAP. The remaining exhibitors are participating on a self-sponsorship basis.
In conclusion, Pakistan’s food exports are on a significant upward trajectory, with the potential to surpass $7 billion by the end of the financial year. The focus on enhancing food and food-related items, along with the active participation of Pakistani exporters in international exhibitions, has contributed to this positive outcome.
