Experts Respond to Another Pakistan Defeat, Citing Lack of Self-Belief
Pakistan fell short in their chase of 120 runs against India in a crucial T20 World Cup 2024 game, leading to a humiliating loss. Mohammad Rizwan’s slow-paced innings of 31 runs wasn’t enough, as Bumrah’s 3-14 in four overs proved decisive. This loss puts Pakistan at risk of first-round elimination in the tournament.
Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar expressed his disappointment in a video message, stating that the Pakistani players lacked intent. Michael Vaughn, former England skipper, praised the slow wicket at the Nassau County for producing one of the best games of the T20 World Cup. However, he also commented on Pakistan’s lack of self-belief, saying that they just don’t believe they can win.
Irfan Pathan, ex-Indian fast bowler, commended Pakistan’s efforts but pointed out their flaws in batting and fielding. Tanveer Ahmed, former Test fast bowler, expressed his disappointment in his own way.
Although Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the Super 8 stage are slim, they are not out of the tournament yet. To qualify, they need to secure victories against Ireland and Canada with good margins to boost their run rate. Additionally, they need Ireland and India to defeat the USA.
