China to Aid Pakistan in Boosting Exports to China
During a recent visit to China, Pakistan’s Minister of Commerce Dr. Gohar Ejaz signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao. The MOU aims to enhance Pakistan’s exports to China and promote job creation, while also balancing bilateral trade.
The Ministry of Commerce held productive meetings with Chinese business leaders and investment groups during the 3rd Belt and Road Forum in Beijing. These meetings aimed to strengthen economic ties between Pakistan and China and explore investment opportunities.
In a meeting with Wang Zihai, Director of China-Pakistan (Qingdao) International Cooperation Hub, discussions focused on investment opportunities in areas such as civilian and defense equipment, EV lithium batteries, solar panels, and semiconductors. The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) was highlighted as a key facilitator of these opportunities.
Another meeting with Li Yiman, Chairperson of Eman Logistics, centered around expanding Pakistan’s presence on Chinese digital platforms. Eman Logistics plans to establish “Pakistan National Pavilion” display centers in China, showcasing Pakistan’s digital prowess.
The Minister also met with Jin Weidong, President of Wellhope, a leading Chinese agri-producer. Wellhope’s expertise in smart farming and meat processing can create a mutually beneficial partnership.
The Minister discussed Pakistan Steel Mills’ privatization and the government’s commitment to the process with Wang Guidong of Donghua Group. The establishment of SIFC will further support these efforts.
Representatives from MCC, China’s metallurgy giant, participated in a working lunch. The focus was on expanding collaboration and utilizing MCC’s expertise for the Saindak Copper-Gold Project.
Dr. Gohar visited COFCO, a global food procurement agency, to explore opportunities to enhance Pakistan’s grains and food exports to China. He invited COFCO to establish regional offices in Pakistan to increase procuring of Pakistani products.
The Minister urged COFCO to establish a Joint Working Group between COFCO, the Pakistani business community, and the Ministry of Commerce.
Throughout the visit, Dr. Gohar engaged with several other prominent Chinese enterprises and organizations, discussing collaboration in various sectors such as mining, trade, hospitality, construction, EV infrastructure, agriculture, and rice sourcing.
Overall, the Minister’s visit to China aimed to strengthen economic ties, explore investment opportunities, and promote Pakistan’s exports to China.
