Government Budget Aims to Reduce Prices of Sugar, Flour, Ghee, Pulses, and Rice
Pakistan to Provide Discounts on Essential Foods in Upcoming Budget
Pakistan is currently grappling with high inflation rates, prompting discussions about allocating funds in the upcoming budget for discounts on five essential food items. The Ministry of Industries and Production has reached out to utility stores to gather suggestions for next year’s budget. These proposals are likely to be included in the Prime Minister’s Relief Package budget, which is set to end on June 30th.
As of now, approximately Rs. 3 billion per month is being allocated for discounts on five key items – sugar, flour, ghee, pulses, and rice. These discounts primarily benefit individuals enrolled in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).
The discounted prices at utility stores for BISP beneficiaries are Rs. 109 per kilogram for sugar, Rs. 648 for a 10-kilogram bag of flour, and Rs. 393 per kilogram for ghee.
Incorporating these discounts in the budget serves as a testament to the government’s efforts to assist people in coping with the escalating prices and challenging economic circumstances.
