Key to Economic Growth: President Emphasizes Attitudinal Change in All Sectors
President Dr Arif Alvi Highlights Importance of Attitudinal Change for Growth of Basmati Rice Export
In a recent event organized by the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP), President Dr Arif Alvi emphasized the significance of attitudinal change in boosting the production and export of Pakistan’s famous Basmati rice. He stated that technological advancements and scientific research are essential in the agriculture sector, and rice exporters should leverage these tools to enhance their yield and contribute to the country’s exports.
During the Biryani Festival and presentation of the REAP journal at Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Alvi addressed the audience, which included REAP office bearers, members of the diplomatic corps, exporters, traders, and media persons. He highlighted the need to involve and encourage women in the agriculture sector, as such initiatives promote women empowerment and drive economic growth. The President emphasized that changes in attitude can have a significant impact on the country’s economy, and with the right scientific knowledge and resources, Pakistan can achieve food self-sufficiency.
President Alvi praised the role of REAP in boosting the country’s exports and economy. Through festivals and road shows organized in different countries, REAP provides excellent business opportunities for local Basmati rice growers and exporters. The President also suggested exploring organic cultivation of rice to address water scarcity, a global concern. He mentioned the Netherlands as an example, a country smaller than Pakistan but known as the second largest food exporter due to its use of advanced technology and research.
Furthermore, President Alvi discussed the global food scarcity issue, attributing it to hoarding and the mismanagement of resources. He stated that setting priorities globally and allocating $1 trillion could effectively address the food crisis and ensure proper nutrition for the world’s population. He also emphasized that Islamic teachings value wealth as a means of uplifting entire communities, fostering the well-being of all individuals.
By promoting attitudinal change and incorporating scientific advancements, Pakistan’s rice exporters can contribute significantly to the economic growth of the country while ensuring the export of high-quality Basmati rice to the world.
