FAISALABAD – Prioritizing the agricultural sector, Director Agriculture (Extension) Chaudhry Abdul Hameed emphasized its crucial role in providing raw materials for industries and meeting the nutritional needs of the country’s population. On Friday, he highlighted the government’s commitment to the development of the agricultural sector and the implementation of necessary measures to support its growth. Punjab province, in particular, plays a significant role in agricultural production, with 70% of cotton, 76% of wheat, 81% of rice, 49% of sugarcane, and 65% of mangoes being produced in the region.

Meeting the nutritional requirements of the growing population necessitates an increase in agricultural produce. Director Hameed stressed the importance of using balanced fertilizers to achieve higher per acre yield in the sector. He emphasized that the application of fertilizers should be based on careful analysis of soil and water conditions.

Research has shown that different fertilizers serve specific purposes in plant growth. Nitrogenous fertilizers, for instance, promote vertical growth, while phosphorus fertilizers enhance root development. Potash fertilizers play a vital role in maintaining plant health and protecting against diseases. Furthermore, the balanced use of fertilizers safeguards crops from water scarcity and the detrimental effects of frost.

In conclusion, the government’s focus on the agricultural sector underscores its significance in sustaining industries and fulfilling the nutritional needs of the population. Implementing measures to increase agricultural productivity, such as the use of appropriate fertilizers, will contribute to the sector’s overall development and ensure food security for the country.
