Government to Implement Digital Registration System for Pesticides
Minister for National Food Security and Research, Tanveer Hussain, has announced plans to enhance the fumigation system in Pakistan. He stated that a comprehensive strategy will be developed, and the number of fumigation companies will be increased to improve the efficiency of the agriculture sector.
During a meeting with the Director General of Plant Protection, the minister learned about the department’s functions, performance, and the challenges it faces. He emphasized the need to bring the department up to high standards and ensure that its operations meet top quality benchmarks.
Furthermore, the minister expressed his commitment to promoting merit and transparency within the department, stating that corruption and inefficiency will not be tolerated. To achieve this, the system will be digitalized to enhance transparency in operations.
Rana Tanveer also highlighted the importance of addressing staff shortages within the department to improve its efficiency and effectiveness. Additionally, the registration system for pesticides will be digitized to streamline the processes.
In order to maintain the quality of rice and mango plants, an effective system for their inspection will be established, with timely inspections to ensure high quality. The minister emphasized that exporters will receive all necessary support within the bounds of the law to boost exports. However, there will be no compromise on quality and standards.
These measures aim to strengthen the agriculture sector in Pakistan and support the country’s rice exporters. It is crucial to ensure that the fumigation system and other operations meet international standards. By implementing these strategies, Pakistan can become a prominent player in the global rice market.
