President: Interim Government and Army Chief Collaborating to Attract Foreign Investment to Pakistan

President Dr Arif Alvi emphasizes the crucial role of decision-making in achieving economic stability and expresses confidence in the caretaker government and military leadership to lead Pakistan towards progress. The president’s remarks were made during the 15th Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan’s (REAP) recognition ceremony, where he congratulated REAP on its impressive growth in exports from $300 million to $3 billion.

President Alvi also highlights the potential of Pakistan and urges the business community to take responsibility and strengthen the country economically. He suggests that REAP members explore joint ventures and focus on value-added rice items, even suggesting the idea of a “Biryani Festival” and inviting REAP to organize it in the President’s House.

Furthermore, the president calls for the revival of rice research institutions to capture more of the international market and proposes the establishment of market-oriented institutions in collaboration with the government and REAP.

The president also emphasizes the importance of women’s participation in the workforce, advocating for their empowerment and inclusion in economic affairs. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori recognizes the rice crop as the second-best export of the country and calls for its recognition as an industry.

REAP Chairman Chela Ram Kewlani describes REAP as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and highlights the country’s significant rice exports to Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and the rest of the world. He urges the president to declare rice as an industry and addresses the issue of the Minimum Export Price (MEP) of rice, which negatively affects exporters. Kewlani also calls for the establishment of a rice research institution to drive opportunities and exports growth.

Overall, the ceremony highlighted the efforts and achievements of REAP and emphasized the importance of the rice industry to Pakistan’s economy. With continued collaboration and support, Pakistan’s rice exports have the potential to further thrive and boost the country’s economic growth.
