ECP Registers Imran Khan’s PTI as a “Leaderless” Entity for Pakistan’s 2024 Election
Islamabad: In a significant development, the Election Commission of Pakistan has recently released an updated political party list for the upcoming 2024 Pakistan General Elections. This updated roster includes 175 officially registered political parties that are set to participate in the elections. However, notably, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), the party formerly led by Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been described as a leaderless political entity by the electoral watchdog.
According to reports, the updated list now incorporates PTI’s faction, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTIP), as a separate political entity. The faction is led by Former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pervez Khattak. This development comes after Imran Khan’s name was removed from the party leader position, and PTI lost its electoral symbol, the “bat.”
In addition to PTI, the updated roster features several other registered political entities. Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), led by President Abdul Aleem Khan, is one of them. The list also includes Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) under the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) under the leadership of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. Furthermore, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), registered under Asif Ali Zardari’s name, are also part of the list. Other notable political groups mentioned are the Awami National Party (ANP) led by Asfandyar Wali Khan, the Balochistan National Party (BNP) led by Akhtar Mengal, and the Jamaat-e-Islami led by Sirajul Haq.
This updated political party list sets the stage for an interesting and closely watched 2024 Pakistan General Elections. The absence of Imran Khan’s name as the head of PTI adds a new dynamic to the political landscape, as the different factions vie for power and influence.
