Discover the Unofficial Eatery at Olivette Station
Nazia Afzal, a talented chef and owner of Olivette Station in St. Louis County, has turned an old gas station into a mouth-watering culinary haven. This hidden gem offers a unique dining experience, serving up delicious Pakistani cuisine made with love and passion.
A Journey from Pakistan to St. Louis
In 2014, Nazia Afzal and her husband, Zaeem Riaz, relocated from Chichawatni, Pakistan to St. Louis with hopes of finding better opportunities. Shortly after their arrival, Afzal purchased Olivette Station along with her brother, Qamar Zaman. Originally, they had intended to run a mechanic shop, but when their hired mechanic stole their tools and put them out of business, Afzal decided to transform the space into a food paradise.
A Culinary Adventure at Olivette Station
At Olivette Station, you can savor the flavors of Pakistan. Indulge in the famous chana masala, a chickpea curry served with your choice of basmati rice or naan. Don’t miss out on the samosa chaat, made with two samosas filled with spiced potatoes and peas, topped with shredded cabbage, onion, cilantro, chana masala, greens, and tamarind chutney. Each bite is a burst of authentic Pakistani flavors.
Afzal, a former high school biology and computer science teacher, showcases her culinary expertise by recreating traditional Pakistani dishes. Growing up, she learned the art of cooking from her family, who owned a dairy farm. Her passion for food shines through in every dish she prepares.
While Olivette Station’s setup may be modest, the prices are incredibly reasonable. For just $8.99, you can enjoy a delectable feast that will leave you craving for more. However, due to county regulations, all menu items must be ordered to-go. Afzal hopes to one day have a full restaurant to serve her customers.
An Unofficial Dining Experience
Following your mouth-watering meal, head to the unofficial seating area. Nestled in a side room, you’ll find retro, lemon-yellow tables where you can relax and savor your food. Though not an official restaurant setting, these cozy tables offer a moment of tranquility after experiencing the flavorful and rich Pakistani cuisine.
