Nepra Announces Positive Tariff Adjustment for Discos in September 2023

ISLAMABAD – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has recently announced a positive adjustment of Paisa 40 per unit in the tariff for Discos in September 2023. This adjustment, made under the monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA), will have a total financial impact of Rs 5 billion.
The decision was taken after Nepra held a public hearing on November 1st, where they reviewed the data submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency – Guaranteed (CPPA-G). The CPPA-G had requested a positive adjustment of Paisa 55 per unit. The reference fuel charges for September 2023 were Rs 7.0711 per unit, while the actual fuel charges were Rs 7.6182 per unit. Therefore, the CPPA-G requested a positive adjustment of Rs 0.5471 per unit.
However, Nepra’s Monitoring and Enforcement (M&E) Section found that there were some violations of the Economic Merit Order (EMO), and as a result, they proposed certain deductions. It is important to note that this adjustment will not be applicable to EVCS and lifeline consumers. The adjustment will be clearly shown on the consumers’ bills for September 2023, based on the units billed to the consumers during that month.
This announcement by Nepra is expected to have a significant impact on the energy sector in Pakistan. It is important for consumers to stay updated with these tariff adjustments, as they directly affect their electricity bills.
