NCEL allowed to export 1.49 million tonnes of non-basmati rice and 50k tonnes of sugar
The newly established National Cooperative Exports Ltd (NCEL) has been granted permission to export 14,92,800 tonnes of non-Basmati rice to 16 countries and 50,000 tonnes of sugar to two countries, according to Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. NCEL, which was registered this year under the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act, 2002, aims to double its revenue by 2025 and includes agriculture, allied activities, handloom, and handicraft items. The organization has received 2,581 membership applications from 22 states and Union Territories.
“NCEL has so far obtained permission to export 14,92,800 tonnes of non-Basmati white rice to 16 countries and 50,000 tonnes of sugar to two countries,” said Shah. NCEL aims to provide a complete ecosystem for promoting exports of agricultural commodities and benefiting Indian farmers. All cooperative societies, from primary to apex levels, interested in exporting are eligible to become members.
NCEL’s focus is to export surplus products from the Indian cooperative sector to wider markets, increasing the demand for Indian cooperative products and obtaining the best possible prices. The organization will facilitate exports through various activities such as procurement, storage, processing, marketing, branding, labeling, packaging, certification, research and development, and trading of goods and services produced by cooperative societies. It will also assist cooperatives in accessing export-related schemes and policies.
