A mobile court in Naogaon has taken action against 18 businesses for illegally hoarding rice during a period of increased prices. Over the course of five days, the businesses were fined a total of approximately Tk 1 million. In addition, four warehouses were sealed off during the drives that began last Tuesday.

The district of Naogaon, known as the grain storehouse of the north, experienced a drop in rice prices following the drives. The prices had previously increased by Tk 2-3 per kg, but fell by Tk 1-2 per kg after the crackdown on illegal stockpiling.

On Saturday, the mobile court carried out operations in three locations within the district. Golam Mawla, the deputy commissioner of Naogaon, reported that three organizations were fined Tk 250,000 in total. RM Rice Mill in the Anandanagar area faced a fine of Tk 100,000, while three warehouses were sealed off for storing rice illegally for more than 15 days, according to the Naogaon district administrator.

Mofizuddin Auto Rice Mill in Chundipur and Tosiron Auto Rice Mill were fined Tk 50,000 and Tk 100,000 respectively for the same offense. Mawla stated that the operations will continue until rice prices reach a reasonable level.
