Kenya and Pakistan Foster Strong Relations, Affirms High Commissioner Kamau
ISLAMABAD: Kenya’s High Commissioner, Ms. M Nyambura Kamau, highlighted the strong diplomatic ties between Kenya and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. These relations date back to 1964 when the Islamic Republic of Pakistan established a High Commission in Nairobi. In 1984, the Republic of Kenya reciprocated by opening its High Commission in Islamabad.
Speaking on the occasion of Kenya’s National Day, Ms. Kamau emphasized that trade and investment play a vital role in the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Currently, the trade and investment volume stands at USD 768 million, with a wide range of products being exchanged.
Tea exports from Kenya to Pakistan and rice exports from Pakistan to Kenya are the main traded goods between the two nations. However, the collaboration between Kenya and Pakistan extends beyond trade and investment. They also cooperate in areas such as defense, technology, education, and the multilateral arena.
Efforts are being made to further enhance trade and investment opportunities, particularly in sectors such as health, manufacturing, agriculture, technology, education, and tourism. Kenya is actively working with the Pakistani government to expand the range of traded goods between the two countries. In addition to tea, Kenya’s major exports to Pakistan include cut flowers, horticultural products, coffee, fruits, and legumes.
It is clear that Kenya and Pakistan are committed to deepening their bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for cooperation. These efforts will undoubtedly contribute to the economic growth and prosperity of both nations.
