Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi is set to visit Pakistan after Ramazan, according to Iranian Consul General in Lahore, Mehran Mohdfar. Mohdfar made this announcement during a conversation with senior journalists after an Iftar dinner. He mentioned that the visit will include discussions on the Pak-Iran gas pipeline, as well as commercial and cultural agreements.

Mohdfar also shared that the construction of the Pak-Iran gas pipeline had resumed after a temporary halt. He expressed that there are no objections or obstacles in Pakistan, where the work has started. The pipeline is expected to benefit Pakistan’s energy sector by $5 billion and alleviate the issue of gas and electricity load shedding. It will also contribute to further development in the industry.

The Iranian Consul General acknowledged the pressures faced by both Pakistan and Iran on this issue, but stated that the nature of the pressure had changed. He assured that all issues would be discussed during President Raisi’s visit to Pakistan.

Additionally, Mohdfar mentioned that six trade markets would be opened on the Pak-Iran border, with one already inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This initiative aims to enhance trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Addressing the recent border tensions between Pakistan and Iran, the Iranian Consul General commended the wisdom shown by both sides, which led to a peaceful resolution. He expressed his appreciation for the Pakistani media’s support in de-escalation, highlighting the importance of fostering friendly relations between the two nations.

Mohdfar stressed the need to promote the culture, economic potential, and tourist attractions of both Pakistan and Iran to the media of both countries. He suggested media delegations from both nations to achieve this goal and stated that efforts are being made in this regard.

In terms of trade, Mohdfar emphasized that Iran is the best market for Pakistani rice. He also expressed Iran’s solidarity with both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority in the face of the brutal killings and oppression faced by the people of Gaza by the Zionist regime, supported by Western powers.
