Iran Offers Reliable and Inexpensive Energy Supplies to Pakistan

KARACHI: Reza Amiri Moghadam, Ambassador of Iran in Pakistan, emphasized the significance of Iran as one of the world’s leading producers of petrochemical and energy sources. He stated that Pakistan heavily relies on imported oil and other energy sources, making Iran an important country for overcoming energy deficiencies.

During a visit to the FPCCI, Moghadam highlighted the popularity of Pakistani rice in Iran due to its exceptional taste and the global recognition of Pakistani textiles. The two countries also share strong cultural and religious ties.

The ambassador expressed his desire to strengthen contacts between the people, businesses, and chambers of commerce of Iran and Pakistan. He emphasized the need to boost business tourism and assured that the Iranian embassy is eager to facilitate Pakistani business community in obtaining visas and participating in trade exhibitions and fairs in Iran.

Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, President of the FPCCI, believes that enhancing trade with Iran can address Pakistan’s chronic trade deficit issues. As Iran is a neighboring country, exporting to Iran would be cost-effective due to minimal shipping and logistics expenses through land-based routes. Sheikh also highlighted the lack of banking channels as a significant obstacle in increasing Pakistani exports to Iran. He suggested that implementing an effective currency swap mechanism could resolve this issue.

Shaukat Omerson, VP of the FPCCI, emphasized the vast potential for Pakistani exports to Iran. Products and services such as rice, fruits, vegetables, value-added textiles, sports goods, surgical instruments, pharmaceuticals, and IT services have great opportunities in the Iranian market.
