Infosys asks certain employees to work in the office for 10 days each month in India
India’s No.2 software-services exporter, Infosys Ltd, is implementing a new work-from-office policy for its employees. Starting from November 20, certain entry and mid-level staff members will be required to work from the office for ten days each month. This development reflects a growing trend among companies worldwide, as many organizations are revising their remote work policies put in place during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Infosys CEO, Salil Parekh, mentioned during a conference call that the company aims to strike a balance between flexibility and a physical workspace. While they want to remain accommodating to their employees, they have observed an increasing number of employees returning to the campus voluntarily. This shift is a testament to the company’s belief in the benefits of in-person collaboration and its desire to uphold a positive work environment.
This decision comes after N.R. Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, sparked controversy by suggesting that young Indians should work 70 hours a week for the country’s development. However, it’s important to note that the new work-from-office policy is not mandatory for all employees and only applies to specific roles within the company.
Infosys’ move follows the footsteps of its larger rival, Tata Consultancy Services, which has already implemented a five-day workweek from the office. Similarly, tech giants Amazon.com Inc and Alphabet Inc’s Google have also announced their plans for employees to work from the office for at least a few days each week.
As companies adapt to the changing landscape and explore various options for work arrangements, it remains to be seen how these policies will shape the future of work in the post-pandemic era.
