Inflation on the Rise as Essential Goods Prices Increase

The Federal Bureau of Statistics has reported a slight rise in weekly inflation, with prices of essential goods increasing by 0.11 percent. This brings the annual inflation rate to 21.40 percent, impacting households nationwide.

Prices of Essential Items Increase

According to the report, prices of 14 essential items saw an increase last week. Tomatoes saw a price hike of Rs 6.63 per kg, while onions rose by Rs 3.51 per kg. Dal mash experienced a significant price increase of Rs 10.92 per kg. Bananas were up by Rs 2.57 per dozen, and milk, potatoes, and cigarettes also became more expensive.

Chicken, dal mong, dal masoor, and rice also saw slight price reductions, providing some relief to consumers.

When comparing prices to last year, a mixed picture emerges. Onions are now 82 percent more expensive, while red pepper prices have increased by 60 percent. Tomatoes also cost 53 percent more than they did before.
