Indonesia Purchases 534,000 Metric Tons of Rice in Tender
BULOG Procures Rice from Pakistan and Myanmar in International Tender
Indonesia’s state purchasing agency, BULOG, has recently initiated the procurement of rice through an international tender. The tender, which closed on Monday, aimed to acquire up to 534,000 metric tons of rice from optional origins. As per European traders, the exact quantity of rice purchased so far remains unclear.
In the tender, BULOG reportedly bought approximately 110,000 tons of rice from Pakistan and about 80,000 tons from Myanmar. The cost of both shipments, including freight (c&f) and free out, stood at around $635 per ton. It’s important to note that these figures are subject to change as additional assessments are made.
There have been unofficial reports suggesting that BULOG may have also procured around 200,000 tons of rice from Thailand and approximately 50,000 tons from Vietnam. The prices for these shipments, also including c&f and free out, were estimated to be around $665 per ton.
The rice purchased in this tender consisted of long grain white rice. The expected arrival date for these shipments is January 30, 2024.
It is worth mentioning that these reports are based on trader assessments and there is a possibility of further adjustments in terms of prices and volumes.
