Government Allows Exports of Non-Basmati White Rice to Seven Countries

The Indian government has announced the permission to export 10,34,800 tonnes of non-basmati white rice to seven countries, including Nepal, Cameroon, and Malaysia. This move comes after the temporary ban on the export of non-basmati white rice was put in place on July 20 to ensure the availability of rice in the domestic market. However, the government has allowed exports to certain countries based on their food security needs and upon request.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has permitted these exports through the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL), according to a notification. The countries included in the permission are Nepal, Cameroon, Cote D’ Ivore, Guinea, Malaysia, Philippines, and Seychelles.

The quantity of non-basmati white rice notified for each country is as follows:
– Nepal: 95,000 tonnes
– Cameroon: 1,90,000 tonnes
– Cote D’ Ivore: 1,42,000 tonnes
– Guinea: 1,42,000 tonnes
– Malaysia: 1,70,000 tonnes
– Philippines: 2,95,000 tonnes
– Seychelles: 800 tonnes

This decision to allow the export of non-basmati white rice aims to support the food security needs of these countries while also promoting Indian rice in the international market.
