ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, the incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman, addressed his controversial tweet about the Hamoodur Rehman Commission Report, stating that he takes full responsibility for the post made on his official X account.

Khan clarified that he owns the tweet in question, responding to allegations made during the hearing of the Al-Qadir Trust case at Adiala jail. Explaining his inability to post a video while in jail, he stated that he had not watched the video attached to the tweet and therefore would not comment on it.

Regarding the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report, Khan highlighted its two objectives. He stated that one of the commission’s goals was to prevent the repetition of similar mistakes, noting that the commission had held retired General Yahya Khan responsible for his actions in order to extend his power. Khan commented that the same pattern was being observed in the country today.

Khan admitted that he had not read the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report in the past, hence his previous references to it as another Mujeebur Rehman when mentioning Nawaz Sharif. However, he confirmed that he has now read the report while in jail.

When questioned about the operator of his X account, Khan mentioned that he will consult with his legal team about the tweets in question.

He praised PTI’s social media team as heroes and vowed to answer the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team’s inquiries about the tweet only in the presence of his legal team. Khan insisted that the FIA must apologize for falsely implicating him in a cypher case.

Addressing the facilities provided to him in jail, Khan clarified that he did not lodge any complaint about the lack of amenities. He mentioned being held in a death cell with access only to an exercise machine. While room air coolers are available in all other cells, Khan does not have an attached bathroom and must go to another location for bathing.

Khan alleged that President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif were given “luxury suites” during their imprisonment, receiving food from outside the jail. In contrast, prisoners are responsible for preparing Khan’s meals.

During the hearing of the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) scam, commonly referred to as the Al-Qadir Trust case, Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, objected to the appointment of new Accountability Court judge Muhammad Ali Warraich. Safdar argued that the Ministry of Law and Justice’s notification regarding the judge’s appointment was incorrect. He stated that it was improper for the judge with the additional charge of Accountability Court-II to preside over this specific case.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor also presented arguments regarding the appointment of the new judge during the hearing.

The court will announce its judgment regarding the objection raised over the appointment of a new judge on June 11.
